Cupcake Frenzy

August 26th, 2008 by Zuriana

Cupcakes appear to be all the rage these days.  Hello Cupcake opened August 25th in Dupont Circle.  Looking to be a bit different?  Try cupcakes as favors, on a dessert bar, or instead of a wedding cake.  Who can resist with intriguing flavors like the ‘you tart!’ lemon cake with lemon cream cheese frosting, ’velvet elvis’ banana cake topped with rich peanut butter frosting, or ‘heart of darkness’ moist devil’s food cake with rich chocolate gananche frosting.  Ummm….my mouth is watering just reading the descriptions.

Provide a unique treat for guest favors, or put some of these gourmet cookie sandwiches in your welcome bags.  The Cookie Sandwich Co.  creates these decadent looking gourmet cookies and fills them with equally decadent filling.   If they don’t deliver to your area ask your caterer if they can do something similar but put a little spin on it to personalize or make it reflect you.

Unfriendly Airlines

August 14th, 2008 by Zuriana

Airlines are adding more and more fees to help keep up with the high cost of fuel.  At least that’s what they’re telling us.  US Airways recently began charging for a beverage (no not alcohol-that price probably has tripled).  Jet Blue is charging for a blankie.   Southwest appears to be the only airline that is anti-fees as evidenced by their new slogan ”Fees don’t fly with us.”

Need help deciding which airline will leave you with money in your pocket for excursions, siteseeing or shopping while on your honeymoon?  Take a look at Time Magazine’s survey on which airlines are the stingiest(PDF version)

Groom’s Contributions

August 13th, 2008 by Zuriana

Continued from our previous post on ‘Contributing Grooms’, some other ways your Groom can contribute include:

  • Help create the guest list
  • Assist with the registry (there are alot of things your guy might love especially with the unique registries available)
  • Obtain the marriage license (check your state’s/county’s marriage license requirements; sometimes only one party need be present)
  • Choose gifts for his attendants
  • Oversee RSVPs

* Be sure to give your husband-to-be the opportunity to be involved in the planning process.  Although many Groom’s say “It’s what she (the bride) wants”, you might be surprised at how much they do want to be involved in certain aspects of your wedding planning.

Weddings at 10,000 Feet

Darren McWalters, left, and Katie Hodgson, right, are wed while standing on flying airplanes.  My first thought was “how exciting”.  My next thought was for the audio guy that had to ensure the guests could hear the ceremony.

I love this wedding because it is:

a) unique
b) creative
c) outside of the box

Allow Zuriana’s Elegant Occasions to help you plan a wedding that is “outside of the box”.
