Your Marriage License

When applying for your marriage license remember to:

• check the waiting period required between your marriage application and the issuance of your marriage license
• check the time period in which your marriage should be performed once your license is issued

Marriage license information for Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia is as follows: 

Maryland
Your marriage license must be obtained from the Circuit Court Clerk’s office in the county (or Baltimore City) where your wedding will take place.  Be sure to contact the Circuit Court Clerk’s office in the county where you plan to marry for rules and fees specific to that county.

Virginia
Your wedding ceremony may be performed anywhere in the state of Virginia.  For application specifics visit the Virginia Department of Health. 

Washington, DC
Your wedding ceremony may be performed anywhere within the District of Columbia.  The Marriage Bureau Section of the Family Court issues marriage licenses.
