Today I was all set to blog about another topic until I saw this article from the Washington Post about New York on sale. I got to thinking about a fabulous bridesmaid getaway. A bonding trip with your bridal party. A shopping spree. A night or nights on the town. Fabulous food… You dig? If you’ve never been to New York then take advantage of the great sales and go on a trip with your bridesmaids. If you can swing paying for a portion of the trip (transportation, a meal or two, hotel, tickets to a show…) wouldn’t that be a great “thank you for being my bridesmaid” gift? If that was my gift we’d be BFF. And guess what. Reston Limousine has New York City Day Trips… I’ve never tried their New York trip, but would love to hear about them from someone who has gone.
I have to share this story for those that have never been to NY City. I had never been to New York until 2001 or 2002 when my sweetie treated me to a birthday trip to New York. We stayed in Times Square at the Crowne Plaza. It was so cool! Times Square is amazing. Everything is so much bigger and brighter. Walking around Times Square around midnight with throngs of people walking around like it was lunchtime. It was simply awesome. We had italian ice at this little place in Greenwich Village, a slice of pizza somewhere, we paid homage to the World Trade Center victims. We must have walked forever. And yes I looked like a tourist snapping pictures and having the time of my life. Thank you honey. You still get brownie points for that trip.
A year or two ago I discovered the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Times Square. Definitely go here for a pretty cool experience and some great fried shrimp and fries. They have other great food as well. I’m partial to the shrimp. I say skip reading about them at the link I posted above. Don’t spoil the surprise… If you can’t wait then by all means read on.
Last year I fell in love with the cute shops and boutiques in SoHo. A must for any chocolate aficionado are the Luxury Chocolates at Vosges Haut-Chocolat. Be sure to stop by their boutique while in SoHo. My favorite bar is the Barcelona Exotic Candy Bar. “Deep milk chocolate melts into the mineral and sumptuous taste of sea salt and roasted almonds, reminiscent of Marcona, Spain.” Mmmm.
I’ll be in New York again in 11 days for the Stationery Show and a chance to get more gorgeous and luxurious wedding invitations. I’ll learn about the latest trends in wedding invitations so be sure to check with me once I’ve returned to see what new and exciting things I got my hot little hands on.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, what they say about the sales is true. From Travelzoo I booked a room at a new 3 star hotel in Midtown Manhattan for $129 a night. The going rate when I booked the room was $232 a night. Now it is $210 a night. A great savings and money left over to shop at my favorite chocolate boutique in SoHo and at Macy’s in Herald Square. Be sure to ask for your 11 percent out-of-town shoppers discount at Macy’s!
Please visit our blog and share your experience with your bridal party trip to New York. I would love to hear about it.
I love New York! Miss Arnita I will see you soon.

I am a huge fan of Reston Limousine’s trips to New York. It is so nice to get to relax on the bus and watch a movie or read while you travel. You get to spend the day in New York shopping, eating, site seeing and then after that you can sleep on the way home knowing that Reston Limousine has the wheel and will get you home safe and sound. It is a MUST do for anyone. I highly recommend it.

I’m going to try Megabus for my trip to New York for the Stationery Show. They won the Travelzoo Award for Best Innovative Deals for 2009. My round trip fare is $27.50. I’ll save money by not having to pay tolls and the $30 - $40 a day garage parking fees. I’ll be sure to post about my bus experience.
