Weddings during a Recession?

December 30th, 2008 by Zuriana

Are you planning a wedding?  Are you worried about settling for a wedding you did not envision?  Rest assured that a beautiful wedding is possible during a recession!  Even though we are in uncertain economic times with the price of food doubling (I paid $10 for a pack of 3 chicken breasts the other day!) , car companies getting financial bailouts, and some retailers closing, there are ways to save money and have the wedding you dream of.

Some ways to save money include:

  • Choose a day other than a Saturday to get married.  If your heart is set on getting married on a Saturday consider holding your reception earlier in the day
  • Have a morning or afternoon reception instead of a dinner reception to help save on catering and food costs
  • Choose an off-peak month from November through April for some great savings
  • Ensure a smaller guest list by inviting close friends and family.  A smaller guest list equates to a smaller food and beverage bill.
  • Decide what aspects of your wedding are most important to you and your fiance’.  If a moist and delicious cake is more important than flowers put more money towards your cake.

Thank You Cards

September 26th, 2008 by Zuriana

Some friends and family really show their generosity by showering you and your fiance’ with gifts and monetary contributions before your wedding.  Should you send thank you notes?  Absolutely!  Is there thank you card etiquette?  Yes there is!  Thank you card etiquette includes when you should send your thank you and what you should express in your thank you notes.  I always recommend personalizing your thank you note.  It is much more meaningful and shows you especially appreciate the giver’s gift.

So, when should you send thank you cards?  Thank you cards should be sent as soon as you receive the gift or within 2 weeks after receipt of the gift.  Be sure to express in your note what the gift was, how much you appreciate it, and in what way you’ll utilize the gift.  Show your enthusiam!  A thank you note is also the perfect time to include an engagement picture or wedding picture.  Your guests will appreciate the special touch.  Find the perfect thank you cards or a combination thank you/photo card holder at
