Weddings during a Recession?

December 30th, 2008 by Zuriana

Are you planning a wedding?  Are you worried about settling for a wedding you did not envision?  Rest assured that a beautiful wedding is possible during a recession!  Even though we are in uncertain economic times with the price of food doubling (I paid $10 for a pack of 3 chicken breasts the other day!) , car companies getting financial bailouts, and some retailers closing, there are ways to save money and have the wedding you dream of.

Some ways to save money include:

  • Choose a day other than a Saturday to get married.  If your heart is set on getting married on a Saturday consider holding your reception earlier in the day
  • Have a morning or afternoon reception instead of a dinner reception to help save on catering and food costs
  • Choose an off-peak month from November through April for some great savings
  • Ensure a smaller guest list by inviting close friends and family.  A smaller guest list equates to a smaller food and beverage bill.
  • Decide what aspects of your wedding are most important to you and your fiance’.  If a moist and delicious cake is more important than flowers put more money towards your cake.

For great financial tips everyone should consider when planning a wedding check out DIY Bride’s article on How To Recession-Proof Your Wedding.

Project Runway Brides

October 11th, 2008 by Zuriana

A friend of mine got me started watching Project Runway and I’m hooked!  In a recent challenge the designers had to design a wedding dress and a matching bridesmaid dress.  I absolutely loved Leanne’s design.  I was pleasantly surprised at what Kenley came up with particularly because I really have not cared for many of her other clothing designs.

 Leanne’s wedding dress:
